Meet the w20.

Your pool should be about enjoying life. Not risking it.

88% of child drownings occur under some form of supervision.

Multiple Sources including: CNN, TXDPA, YMCA Charlotte, Alabama Public Health and others.

A pool can give your family and friends a lifetime of fun and great memories. We set out to build a system that helps keep it that way.

The WAVE w20 actively monitors both swimmers and non-swimmers and immediately detects and alerts when any may be at risk. The system is extremely reliable, simple to use, and completely portable.

It’s built on the belief that the most important accessory for any pool is the one that makes it the safest.

The WAVE w20. The world's most advanced drowning detection system for residential pools. Like yours.

Swimming remains as fun as ever.
But a whole lot safer.

How the w20 System monitors your swimmers.

Each swimmer wears a WAVE Tracker, an incredibly lightweight headband. Trackers are so comfortable that most swimmers forget they even have one on. For goggle users WAVE Goggle Clips can quickly make any pair ready to use with the system.

The w20 system continually communicates with each swimmer's wearable for up to 300 ft. If the swimmer remains submerged for 30* seconds, the w20 immediately alerts you with a flashing strobe light, audio alerts and more.

When swim time is over Trackers and Goggle Clips are conveniently stored on the w20 unit.

* User adjustable

Think of them as bike helmets for swimming.

About us.

Sadly, most drownings occur with supervision present. This happens because drowning is extremely difficult to detect– even for trained professionals. It takes only seconds, is silent, and often looks like the victim is simply swimming underwater.

WAVE SYSTEMS is a team of passionate individuals, parents, organizations and manufacturers dedicated to the belief that no life should be lost due to drowning.

Our goal was to create a reliable, elegant and user friendly technology to prevent these tragedies without detracting from swimmers' enjoyment of water.

Our award-winning team has decades of experience in aquatic safety and includes expert consultants, aquatic directors, lifeguards, parents and even Olympic swimmers. We've been developing and deploying drowning detection systems for commercial facilities and have now brought our innovative proven technology to consumers.

Frequently asked questions.

We always watch our swimmers. Why do we need a w20?

We believe that most parents and pool owners are vigilant. But they're also human and like any human they can be distracted by noise, heat, humidity, glare, blind spots, distortion in the water and more.

A drowning can happen in just seconds. It is typically silent and without noticeable movement or actions by the victim. In reality it's nothing like what is depicted in movies or on TV. To most people a drowning victim simply looks like a person swimming or playing underwater. This makes it very difficult to detect, even for trained professionals.
WAVE w20 works with you to watch over everyone around your pool in real time. It provides you with a powerful advantage that could mean the difference between a great day in the water or tragedy.

Won't having the w20 make caregivers more complacent?

No, not at all.
In fact we have found the opposite to be true: Most people want to detect any potential event before the w20 does.

We have found that most people feel less stress and pressure when WAVE is supporting their efforts to provide a safe swimming environment. We believe that having less stress means a better experience which equates to more effective lifeguarding.

We're great swimmers. Why do we need a w20 and wear Trackers?

Yes! Drowning can happen to everyone at any age, including experienced swimmers and trained atheletes.
That's why we highly encourage using the w20 and that all of your swimmers wear Trackers or Goggle Clips anytime they are around your pool or water.

My swimmers don't go underwater. Do they need to wear Trackers?

Accidents, such as muscle cramps, slips, falls and head trauma can happen above water and impact a swimmer's safety. For this reason, it's critical that you strongly encourage anyone entering the water to always wear their Tracker or Goggle Clips.

Do those Trackers really stay on?

We've worked on the design for over two years, testing amost 100 versions on hundreds of different swimmers to arrive at a design that stays on securely during most swimming activities yet can be easily removed when leaving the water or exchanging with other users.

Should a Tracker fall off, it will float, and most swimmers intuitively put the Tracker back on.
It's that simple to use and wear.

Kids will be kids. Won't they resist wearing Trackers or intentionally creating false alerts?

We've tested our wearables on thousands of swimmers and have learned that most kids who are reluctant to wear Trackers or Goggle Clips quickly discover that after only a few minutes wearing one is no big deal. (In fact most swimmers forget they even have one on.)
Our take is that setting off the WAVE alert is no different from setting off a fire alarm and should be treated as such. For those pranksters that intentionally cause an alert, we have found that swift removal from the water quickly corrects that behavior.
Lastly, while it might be fun and exciting the first time to set off an alert, most kids will become bored quickly and look for other ways to get into trouble ;)

Is wearing a Tracker or Goggle Clip safe?

Yes, very safe.
Trackers and Google Clips use very low-power radios that transmit for extremely short durations that last less than the blink of an eye. They are much less powerful than a typical pair of wireless headphones or headsets.

How does the Toddletag work?

Toddletags are attached quickly and securely using a two part magnetic clasp. We recommend positioning them on the back of the individual's waistline area and attaching it to their clothing (shirt, shorts, bathing suit).

For pets, an adapter enables the Toddletag to be attached to the animal's collar.

If the wearer enters the water and the Toddletag is submerged, the w20 will immediately notify you.

Is the w20 only for pools?

Our WAVE systems work in all types of water including indoor/outdoor pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers and the beach (oceans, bays, etc.).

Depending on size and depth, the WAVE w20 will even work in bathtubs (please test prior to using).

Does the w20 stop drowning?

The w20 is a tool that to help people prevent accidents. Only a human can intervene to rescue a victim and stop a drowning.

How do we know if the wearables are working?

The WAVE wearables are automatically activated when they detect motion, and enter a sleep mode to preserve battery life when not in use. (However while in sleep mode the w20 still monitors the wearable's status and battery level.) If a wearable's battery is getting low and the device should no longer be used, the w20 will notify you via the WAVE w20 Management app and/or other notifications.

If a wearable is not working for some other reason, you will not be able to see it listed in the WAVE app.

If a wearable appears to be damaged in any way immediate discountinue using it and remove it from the system using the WAVE w20 Management App.

How long do wearables last? How do I replace them?

The wearables have a (non-replaceable) internal battery that is projected to last a very long time of 18 months based on swimming every day for 8 hours.

When the battery level gets low, the WAVE w20 Management app will notify you that the wearable needs to be replaced. You can order new wearables anytime at our online store.

You may also choose to participate in one of our subscription services plans which may include automatic wearable replenishment as specified intervals.
